The treatment used works in harmony with the person’s inherent self-healing process, including dietetics and nutritional substances, botanical medicine, psychotherapy, naturopathic physical medicine including naturopathic manipulative therapy, minor surgery, prescription medications, naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth), homeopathy, and acupuncture.

People experience life to the fullest through the things they enjoy doing everyday – at work, in school, in their homes, or out in their communities. Occupational therapy (OT) is a health profession that helps you or your family member develop the skills needed for day-to-day activities when these abilities are reduced or lost. Shannon uses evidence-based OT practice to help children and their families address difficulties around sensory integration, picky eating, fine motor/printing skills, self-regulation and activities of daily living (dressing, toileting, play!).

In a session, we will work to tease out and address which factors are contributing to the concerns parents may have, and collaboratively establish goals for treatment. Some things, like picky eating and anxiety, can take longer to make significant gains. Others, like sensory differences, can benefit from more of a consultative model where in fewer sessions parents/families will have the tools they need to see improvement.

Bowen therapy is a gentle, hands-on therapy that allows the body to rest, relax and restore its own function. It can help to reactivate the recovery process in situations where healing from trauma, sickness or surgery has plateaued. It is a manual therapy gentle enough to be used on babies right up to the elderly or critically ill.

Bowen therapy consists of a series of “Moves” that are followed by short pauses or “Wait” times. The Bowen Move is very distinctive and is applied at very precise points on the body. The Move is a rolling-type motion using the thumbs and forefingers, and is designed to stimulate the connective tissue and nerve pathways. The Wait times allow the body to relax, thereby allowing the body to heal itself.

There are a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions for which Bowen Therapy is used. Some of these issues include, but are not limited to, improvement of mobility, reduced stress and pain, increased energy and circulation, lymphatic drainage and detoxification.

Bowen therapy can be used to decrease back pain in expectant Moms. Baby Bowen can be used to treat colic and digestive issues in young children.

Do you know anyone who sees an osteopath? When they talk to you about it do you smile and nod and wonder what on earth they are talking about? Osteopathy is a holistic (as in whole, global) approach to treating the body which takes into account every stressful event your body has been through to date.

Osteopathy is a natural medicine with a basic philosophy that the body has an innate ability to self-regulate and self-heal. Osteopathic treatment uses a gentle “hands-on” or manual approach to identify areas of the body that are restricted and to gently release these areas in order to restore normal function. Osteopaths’ main tools are their hands and highly refined sense of palpation, which they use to assess the state of the body’s tissues and systems.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands, and ears, which correspond to every part, gland, and organ of the body. By applying specific pressure using thumb, finger and hand techniques, reflexology reduces tension, improves circulation, and promotes the natural functioning of the related areas of the body.
