Osteopathy is a holistic (as in whole, global) approach to treating the body which takes into account every stressful event your body has been through to date.

Osteopathy is a natural medicine with a basic philosophy that the body has an innate ability to self-regulate and self-heal. Osteopathic treatment uses a gentle “hands-on” or manual approach to identify areas of the body that are restricted and to gently release these areas in order to restore normal function. Osteopaths’ main tools are their hands and highly refined sense of palpation, which they use to assess the state of the body’s tissues and systems.

Hi, I am Robin, and I am excited to join Robins Nest with 15 years of Osteopathic experience. The nuts and bolts of me: I graduated from 5 years of study in 2008 from the Canadian College of Osteopathy and defended a thesis on Defining the Inner Physician, An Osteopathic Perspective, in 2013 for the designation of DOMP (or Dip. OMP).

My fascination is with the innate healing mechanisms that lie within us and what that means to our health and healing. Working with the ‘Whole’ of the person profoundly affects healing and health. Working biodynamically allows me to work beyond just the physical anatomy and into the body’s energy fields, promoting the innate healing within.

The most often asked question is “What are you doing?” as I often explain, it feels like I am doing nothing, and any question is welcome, including ‘What are you doing.’ Your body, your right to know what’s happening. I can answer in biomechanical terms and energetic terms.

I understand pain. I have experienced debilitating back pain. I had a fusion at L5/S1 (the lower part of the spine) in 2007. It was osteopathy that kept me going during that time.

Jenessa is an orofacial myofunctional therapist and a registered dental hygienist, working in the dental field for over ten years. She graduated from the dental hygiene program at Cambrian College in 2011 and currently works part-time at a dental office in Guelph. After having her first child, she discovered the effect of tethered oral tissues (tongue and other ties) on the breastfeeding relationship and early life and the multitude of symptoms that affect adult life. In her dental hygiene practice, she frequently sees clients with teeth clenching/grinding, jaw pain, headaches, orthodontic relapse, and sleep issues. After discovering Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, she became passionate about treating the underlying cause of these issues instead of just treating the symptoms. Jenessa received training for Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy through the IAOM and enjoys working with all ages to improve oral function related to breathing, chewing, swallowing, speaking, and facial growth and development. Jenessa believes that myofunctional therapy promotes overall health and well-being and can significantly influence people’s lives. Jenessa would call herself a lifelong learner and is always looking to expand her knowledge and skills by taking courses, reading, and keeping up to date on new research. She works collaboratively with other like-minded, well-respected healthcare professionals equally interested in improving overall health. Outside of work, Jenessa is a mom to three young children and enjoys a variety of hobbies, including volleyball, music, and spending time with her family.

Robin Young, OMP Osteopathic Manual Practitioner Clinic Founder/Director

Robin Young is a proud Mama, an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner and the founder of Robin’s Nest Family Care. She attended the Canadian College of Osteopathy and completed her thesis in 2009. Following that Robin had her first child and started working on this vision that she had for a space for family care where a crying child was understood and siblings were welcomed. In October of 2015 Robin’s Nest’s doors were opened and a dream realized. Robin continues her education in fertility, pregnancy and pediatrics to keep up to date on the latest research to best help her patients’ concerns. She is very enthusiastic about her work and it is evident by the smile on her face.

Robin attended the University of Guelph and received her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics in 2000 and maintains her Registered Kinesiologist designation to date. After that she trained at the Canadian College of Osteopathy in Toronto, In 2009, following 5 years of study and the completion of her thesis she received her Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice. During her years of study at the college she completed many courses in cranial osteopathy, myofascial release, muscle energy, visceral manipulation, neural manipulation, obstetrics and pediatrics.

Robin discovered the benefits of Osteopathy following her experiences working in both chiropractic and physiotherapy practices. Osteopathy is a wholistic approach to treating the body which takes into account every stressful event your body has been through to date. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners have a strong base in anatomy and physiology upon which to base their manual techniques. These manual techniques will allow them to get you back to doing what you love efficiently and effectively.

Following the completion of her thesis she got pregnant and had a son. He has inspired her passion for working with children, babies and pregnant women. Following that she developed an interest in helping couples with fertility issues. Robin has taken many courses and continues to further her study in these areas because she believes that osteopathy is an untapped resource.

Robin now has two young children who keep her and her husband very busy. When she isn’t working or playing with her family, she enjoys experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen and going for long walks in the woods.
